퀴즈노스, 2018년 매장 100개…샌드위치+커피 ‘Q-카페’ 승부수

퀴즈노스 한국 진출 10주년 기념…전 세계 첫 ‘Q-카페’ 등 선봬

 

[아시아경제 오주연 기자]”한국은 퀴즈노스가 아시아에 진출한 첫 국가이며 아시아 지역의 확장 가능성을 보여주는 교두보와 같다.”

더그 펜더개스트 퀴즈노스 최고경영자(CEO)는 22일 퀴즈노스 압구정점에서 기자와 만나 이같이 말했다. 퀴즈노스는 전세계 40여개 국에서 매장 3000개를 운영 중인 글로벌 샌드위치 전문점이다. 이날 퀴즈노스 글로벌 대표단은 23일 한국진출 10주년 기자간담회 및 중국 진출에 앞서 퀴즈노스 압구정점을 찾았다.

더그 CEO는 “한국 퀴즈노스는 타국가에서 없었던 혁신적인 시도들을 펼치고 있어 모범적 사례로 손꼽힌다”며 전 세계서 처음으로 시도되는 ‘Q-카페’를 예로 들었다.

한국 퀴즈노스는 최근 고급 커피숍에서나 맛볼 수 있는 프리미엄 스페셜티 원두를 커피 모든 메뉴에 사용하기로 했다. 매출 점유율의 15% 이상을 차지하고 있는 음료군을 차별화해 고객을 끌어 모으겠다는 취지에서다. 이에 에티오피아 선물거래소에서 스페셜티 인증을 받은 코케허니와 콜롬비아 커피 생산자 협회에서 인증된 최고 등급 후일라 수프리모를 블렌딩한 스페셜티 커피를 새롭게 내놨다.

스페셜티 커피 가격은 아메리카노 기준 3000원. 국내 대형 커피전문점서 5000~6000원대에 판매하는 것의 절반 수준이다. 한국 퀴즈노스는 Q-카페를 통해 모객효과를 누리고, 이들이 자연스럽게 퀴즈노스의 샌드위치군도 즐길 수 있도록 하겠다는 계획이다.

 

또한 밝은 분위기의 카페형 플레그샵 인테리어를 선보이고, 퀴즈노스 어플리케이션을 개발하는 등 변화를 추구하는 것과 관련해 더그 CEO는 “코스타리카, 싱가포르 등에서 메뉴강화를 하고 있는데 한국시장이 모범사례가 됐다”고 강조했다.  

 

한국퀴즈노스는 10주년을 맞아 샌드위치 구성도 강화한다는 방침이다. 이에 멕시칸 고추를 불에 구운 후 말린 ‘치폴레’를 활용한 치폴레 샌드위치 3종, 청양고추 소스를 치킨살에 양념해 한국적인 매운맛이 특징인 ‘크레이지 핫치킨’ 등 4종을 내놨다. 메뉴강화를 통해 국내 샌드위치 시장서 리더가 되겠다는 것이 최종 목표다.  

 

국내 출점한지 10년이 됐지만 퀴즈노스 매장은 아직 40개에 불과하다. 타프랜차이즈업체들이 단기간에 수백개씩 매장을 내는 것과 비교하면 더딘 속도다.

 

김영덕 한국퀴즈노스 사장은 “초창기에는 원재료를 모두 미국 본사서 수입했는데 재료 공급이 원활하지 못할 때도 있어 매장 확대가 생각만큼 늘지 못했던 것은 사실”이라며 “그러나 3년 전부터 재료의 100% 국산화에 성공했고 물류시스템과 인프라를 구축하는 것도 완성해 본격적으로 매장 확대에 나설 수 있게 됐다”고 말했다.  

그는 또한 “단기간 매장수 증가보다는 오랜 시간 동안 꾸준히 운영되는 매장수의 추이를 확인하는 것이 중요하다”며 “샌드위치는 유행을 타지 않는 제품이기 때문에 꾸준하게 성장하고 있다”고 설명했다.

 

한국퀴즈노스는 2018년까지 매장 100개를 열고, 현재 매출액 120억원에서 360억원으로 올리겠다는 목표다. 또한 점당 평균 매출이 한 달에 3000만원 이상 되도록 해 본사와 가맹점주가 함께 성장하겠다는 계획이다.

샌드위치점 퀴즈노스 론칭 10년 “2018년까지 국내 100개점 확대”

글로벌 샌드위치 전문점 퀴즈노스는 국내 론칭 10주년을 맞아 신메뉴를 출시하고 스페셜티 원두, 매장 다양화를 통해 2018년까지 한국내 점포를 100개로 늘리겠다고 밝혔다.

 

김영덕 유썸 퀴즈노스코리아 대표는 23일 기자간담회를 열고 “최근 점포당 매출 증가율이 늘어나는 등 샌드위치 시장 이 점차 확대되고 있다”면서 “커피 강화, 한국인의 입맛에 맞는 소스 개발 등 지난 10년의 노력을 토대로 향후 성장하는 10년이 될 것”이라고 강조했다.

 

이를 위해 퀴즈노스는 기존 15개 메뉴 중 7개를 새로운 메뉴로 교체하는 등 공격적으로 변화를 주고 있다. 이번 신메뉴는 ‘매운 맛’에 초점을 맞췄다. 불에 구워 말린 멕시코 고추 ‘치폴레’가 들어간 3종과 한국인 입맛에 익숙한 매운맛을 강조한 ‘크레이지핫치킨’ 메뉴가 그것이다.

여기에 고급 커피를 앞세워 커피상품도 강화한다.

퀴즈노스는 1981년 미국에서 문을 열었으며 캐나다·호주 등 세계 40여개국에 진출해 있다.국내에는 지난 2006년 진출해 현재 점포수 40개를 넘어섰다.

QSR International Focuses on Quiznos Growth

QSR International, developer of Quiznos, Smashburger and Teriyaki Experience franchises throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, announced the divestiture of 32 of its 33 KFC Costa Rican restaurants to Intelectiva Costa Rica SRL, led by Mexican businessman, Roberto González Alcalá.

This divestiture will allow QSR International to focus on growth opportunities inside and outside of Costa Rica for its three restaurant brands, stated a company press release. QSR International plans to make those brands more convenient in all of the 16 countries where it oversees 119 Quiznos, Smashburger and Teriyaki Experience restaurants.

QSR has three additional Smashburger restaurants, five additional Quiznos restaurants and one additional Teriyaki Experience restaurant currently under construction. In addition, before the end of the year, QSR will opening two new Quiznos restaurants in Medellin and Bogota, Colombia.

While some of the proceeds from the divestiture will be earmarked to accelerate the growth of both Quiznos and Smashburger in Costa Rica, a portion of the proceeds will be used for acquisitions and new Master Franchises, said QSR Co-founder and President Richard Eisenberg.

“The sale of our KFC restaurants is bitter sweet,” he said. “KFC is a brand which we truly love and was the foundation for our entire QSR enterprise. However, this divestiture will allow us to focus on expanding our Master Franchise portfolio while providing capital to accelerate the growth of both Quiznos and Smashburger in Costa Rica, where QSR is based. It also will provide the capital needed to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning a Franchisor.”

QSR International is a 120-unit, multi-brand Master Franchise restaurant developer currently conducting business in 16 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Quiznos Inks Record Deal to Expand Into China

Quiznos’ international business has been hot lately, including a recent deal in China that could be the largest deal in franchising history.

Quiznos announced that it signed a 1,500-unit deal with the Parkson Retail Group of China, a retail arm of Malaysia-based The Lion Group. The units will be opened over the next 15 years.

“To be the foundation of a China [food and beverage] group that has already established its successful roots in the China retail sector‎ is exciting for the Quiznos brand,” says Ken Cutshaw, president of Quiznos International, via email.

Cutshaw adds that the agreement is the largest known franchise deal by unit count. Dunkin’ Donuts recently announced a deal for 1,400 restaurants in China.

The Lion Group entered the food and beverage industry in 2014, when it acquired stakes in AUM Hospitality, a Malaysia-based company with 12 brands. The Lion Group also has plans to expand with Johnny Rockets and the Malaysian brands Franco and The Library Coffee Bar.

“Operating in over 40 countries, Quiznos is a brand that has proven to be universal and transcends across all geographical and cultural boundaries,” says Tham Lih Chung, a spokesman with The Lion Group, in an email. “Thus we were confident that the brand and concept of Quiznos would be one that can be easily and widely accepted in China.”

Chung adds that Quiznos will fit well within China’s marketplace because of the widespread acceptance of Western brands. In addition, with many restaurant brands in China recently affected by food-safety scares, The Lion Group was interested in partnering with a company well equipped for first-rate operations, he says.

“While the China market presents great opportunities for F&B brands, the scale of threats are equally as big,” Chung says. “This is why we have taken a considerable amount of attention into the brands we bring into a market like China—these brands must provide unique dining experiences, and we found that in Quiznos.”

The Lion Group will open three Quiznos in Shanghai this year, then 100 units in 2016. It plans to focus initially on the Shanghai market before expanding into other parts of China, and will leverage the real estate it owns in nearly 60 department stores in the country.

Cutshaw says Quiznos’ global business is rapidly expanding—the company is also launching in Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Iraq, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates—as the domestic business refines its model and restructures its finances.

“Every successful global restaurant chain begins with a successful U.S. foundation,” he says. “Quiznos is no exception. And Quiznos will continue to expand its presence both domestically and internationally with strong franchisees like The Lion Group of China.”

Quiznos opens first drive-thru store in Costa Rica (Spanish)

A partir del 20 de febrero, los seguidores de Quiznos podrán disfrutar de sus platillos preferidos en Guadalupe diagonal a los Tribunales de Goicoechea, locación seleccionada para la apertura del local número 30 de la marca en Costa Rica.

Este es el primer restaurante de la cadena que cuenta con la opción de autoservicio. La decisión de incorporarlo, se basó en la satisfacción de los consumidores, quienes ahora podrán disfrutar con mayor facilidad y conveniencia los productos de Quiznos cuando van de paso y desean consumir estos en su casa u oficina.

El nuevo local se ubica en Guadalupe diagonal a los Tribunales de Goicoechea.

“Sabemos que muchos de nuestros seguidores estaban a la espera de la apertura de un Quiznos en la zona. Esto, aunado a un análisis de mercado que nos permitía medir la efectividad de instalar el autoservicio, nos hizo apostar por Guadalupe. Esta es una zona altamente comercial y residencial con gran afluencia de consumidores”, explica Paola Tinoco, gerente de marca de Quiznos.

En este nuevo local los seguidores de la marca podrán disfrutar de un restaurante espacioso, confortable y con una opción de un menú muy completa. Las instalaciones tienen una extensión de 212 m², distribuidos en dos niveles y espacio para 74 personas sentadas.

En la construcción y desarrollo de este nuevo espacio, la empresa invirtió un monto aproximado a los US$350.000 y se destaca su diseño innovador y acogedor para sus clientes.

Tanto el restaurante como el autoservicio estarán abiertos los siete días de la semana, con un horario de 11:00 am a 10:00 pm. Además, para la operación del mismo se contrató a 15 personas.

“Esta nueva apertura nos permitirá brindar productos memorables y de muy alta calidad a nuestros consumidores. Aquí nuestros seguidores se podrán deleitar con nuestro menú mediterráneo con recetas inspiradas por chefs y sabores que sorprenden a quienes nos prefieren”, agrega Tinoco.

Durante este 2015, QSR Internacional -empresa que opera y franquicia KFC, Quiznos, Teriyaki y SmashBurger-, tiene preparado un fuerte plan de inversión y expansión para sus marcas. La meta será finalizar el año con 33 restaurantes Quiznos en todo el territorio nacional.

Quiznos Continues Push for Global Expansion

DENVER – Oct. 30, 2014 – Quiznos continues to expand its industry-leading international development with growth into seven countries in Asia and the Middle East. This is the latest addition to an international development strategy to open more than 1,000 restaurants in more than 40 countries by 2020 and will widen the company footprint abroad through the help of trusted international Master Franchisees.

Malaysia and China

Indonesia and Taiwan

In September, Quiznos opened its first restaurant in Abu Dhabi.  Master Franchisee Royal Bun Café plans to open seven additional locations by the end of 2014 in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, RAK, Sharjah and Fujairah. The group will open 75 restaurants in Bahrain, the UAE and neighboring Oman by 2021.

Quiznos brings toasted subs to Taipei

TAIPEI – Sept. 1, 2014 – Toasted submarine sandwich brand Quiznos kicked off a 10-day trial run at its first store in Taiwan Monday in a bid to take a slice of the country’s fast food market.

The Denver-based chain revealed on its Facebook page that it has launched the 10-day trial run in Taipei’s bustling Xinyi district, not far from the landmark Taipei 101 skyscraper.

The company aims to be a competitor to American chain Subway, which has nearly 140 restaurants across Taiwan.

Founded in 1981, Quiznos is the second-largest submarine sandwich shop chain in North America. It currently has over 2,000 outlets in 40 countries.

Quiznos Stepping Up Drive-thru Presence in Central America

SAN JOSE – Sept. 29, 2014 – QSR International has announced the opening of its fourth restaurant in Nicaragua, as well as the construction of the first Quiznos drive-thru location in Costa Rica.

QSR International is the master franchise off Quiznos (as well as Smashburger and Teriyaki Experience) in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Heavier Focus on Drive-thrus

The new drive-thru unit currently under construction will be located near the municipal courthouse in Guadalupe, San José, Costa Rica. It will incorporate a new dual equipment line which has reduced service times by 40 percent, according to Richard Eisenberg, president of QSR International.

“We developed a new, dual-sided equipment line which, with improvements to POS and ‘on the fly’ kitchen monitors, has significantly improved speed of service, enabling us to build more drive-thrus,” he said in an email to QSRweb.

Within QSR International’s Latin and Caribbean markets, there are currently four open units with a drive-thru, out of 97 total units. Eisenberg said there will be “several more” built in 2015.

“Our average unit volumes for Quiznos are about double the US, and drive-thrus are even higher. Drive-thru units are projected to sell 40 to 50 percent of their sales in the drive-thru,” he said.

The Costa Rica location will be the eighth unit owned and operated by one of QSR’s three local franchise partners, Food Corp. It also will be the 29th Quiznos in Costa Rica.

Nicaragua

The new Nicaragua location is in Managua, in the Multicentro Las Americas Mall, Villa Progreso. It is operated by Industrias de Comida Rápida SA (INCORSA), and is the fourth of five units planned for Nicaragua.

“Quiznos has quickly become a highly successful and favorite restaurant brand in the Nicaragua marketplace,” INCORSA CEO Bergman Castillo said in a news release. “We believe that Quiznos’ superior premium ingredients are a key attribute of our success.”
